Turn $10 into $50,000 for YLI.

In 2006, Jeff Nelson, April McGlothin-Eller, and Cliff Bath set out on an adventure.  They knew that young people in and around Detroit, Michigan were capable of leading the church and the world in conspiracies of goodness - and that we should do something to support them in that effort.

So the Young Leaders Initiative was launched as a United Methodist related non-profit to "engage young people as leaders for the transformation of the world" using the City of Detroit and the people and ministries here as a playground for that discernment, service and discipleship.

Now eight years later YLI has helped thousands of young people connect their Christian faith with action in the world through:
  • The Metro Youth Encounter - leadership academy for high school youth.
  • Transforming Leaders - Summertime internships for college students.
  • Motown Mission - Weeks of service and cultural immersion in the City of Detroit for Christian youth and college teams.
  • The relaunched Motor City Wesley - a college campus ministry in the heart of Detroit speaking from the Wesleyan perspective and practicing personal + social holiness.
  • Emerge Detroit & Detroit Villages - ongoing invitations for young people to relocate to Detroit and create Christian missional communities with the people here.

YLI is now participating in the RiseDetroit Charity Challenge on Crowdrise.com  If you could support our important ministries with young people with as little as a $10 donation, we have the chance to receive the grand prize of $50,000 from Mission Throttle and the Fisher Foundation.

I count my work with YLI as a great privilege and thank every participant, church partner, volunteer and neighbor who has made this ministry possible.  Thanks and happy sharing!  (see the widget on the right to donate or share our fundraiser with your social networks!)

Sincerely,
Carl Gladstone
